ee portal will be presenting 2 videos at this year’s Duality: this blue ethic (2021) & this blue ethic 2 (2023). This blue is an ecological-emotional pact. This blue recognizes the entanglement of the climate crisis in unsustainable mining practices, overwhelming amounts of plastics in our waterways, and environmental toxins (inner and outer) inherited from layered synthetics. This blue is about subtle shifts, veins, brain health, movement, and morphing waves of transformation vitally needed to realize – some things are never washed away. As is typical for ee portal, the hour-long video will be accompanied by a live improvised soundscape performed by Emilio. The experimental sonic performance will include journeys into field recordings, synthesis, tape music, ocarina performances, percussion and drones.
About the Company:
Since 2011, multidisciplinary collective ee portal (Elyse & Emilio Portal) has been creating ecopoetic installations, new media works and performances. They have shown work throughout Canada. They have presented their video & sound installations at the Fabulous Fringe Festival of Film, On The Edge Fringe Festival, Up Here, la Galerie du Nouvel-Ontario, the Burren College of Art, and with Myths & Mirrors. Collectively, they have studied a wide-range of disciplines including music, studio arts, philosophy and architecture at Laurentian University, Dalhousie University, the University of Victoria, and the University of Toronto.
Their methods of working are based in fluid, spontaneous and vulnerable actions that encompass many fields including philosophy, poetry, spirituality, ecology, performance, sound, video, sculpture, painting and craft. They often employ a large old smoky canvas, naturally extracted plant dyes and fibres, cryptic field recordings and alternative sources of energy.
When not making art, they enjoy walking on uncharted trails in the boreal forest and playing with their son, Teo Sol. They currently reside in N’Swakamok, Atikameksheng Anishnawbek, Robinson-Huron Treaty territory, aka Sudbury, Ontario.
