2019 Duality-Firestarter

Duality-Firestarter back again for 2019!

Duality-Firestarter is an annual multi-disciplinary arts incubator that engages artists and community facilitated by Zakide in tandem with the ON THE EDGE Fringe Festival. Starting in early July and running through the summer, the 2019 Duality-Firestarter summer program consisted of a series of artistic developments both locally and crossing many regional boundaries. Actions took place in Durham, Ontario as part of the Fabulous Festival of Fringe Film, pop-up activations in Ottawa, Montreal, and Toronto, and a performance art intensive, 101 perFORMAnce aRT, as part of the ON THE EDGE Fringe Festival. Participants in the performance art intensive created new performance works on-site and had the opportunity to present their work to a public audience during the last day of the festival on Saturday, August 17th, 2019.

During our 2020 Lottery Draw, we presented the second part of Duality-Firestarter which featured the performance Break Something by Clayton Windatt & Jacob Dayfox, a visual arts installation from members of the ON THE EDGE fringe team, as well as an independent installation, Thinking with Many Voices, by Clayton Windatt in a different part of the building.

Artists participating in this year’s Duality-Firestarter included, but were not limited to: Joshua Bainbridge, Geneviève Crépeau, Jacob Dayfox, Matthieu Dumont, Guy Sioui Durand, Julie Fiala, Cole Forrest, Caleb Geden, Stephanie Kast, Matt Lishman, Beverley Peltier, Kelsey Ruhl, Clara Windatt, Clayton Windatt, Ember Windatt, Jonny Windatt & Tara Windatt.
